Through this ministry the impact of the gospel is made available to remote areas of Mexico otherwise very difficult to reach.

The below information is taken from the UIM Aviation Staff Page.

Sandy and Bryon have been married for 24 years, after meeting at Frontier School of the Bible in LaGrange, Wyoming. They have four children, Danielle (19), Joseph (17), Joshua (14) and Caleb (12).
Sandy is a stay at home mom and keeps very busy raising the children and taking care of their needs. The family is also involved in ministry with their local church.

The Brocks joined UIM International in April of 1997. They spent several years raising support before moving from Omaha, NE to Tucson, AZ in November of 1999, where Bryon serves as the Director of UIM Aviation.

Prayer Requests:
Please pray that I would be a Godly leader of my home, ministry, and church.
Please pray that I might lead with wisdom that only God can supply.
Please pray that everyone of my children will put God first in their life.
Please pray for Sandy as she manages the home.
Please pray for our continued prayer and financial support.

I posted the following on my personal blog back in March and wanted to share it with you.

Haven’t heard from or of him for many, many years. I roomed with his brother in college and always admired their family… a family of missionaries. He and his wife served in Quito, Ecuador for as long as I can remember and is currently serving missions in the states. His name is Jim Smith and his name came up in a blog I follow. It was actually a blog about his son, Zack. Alright, I don’t actually know Zack and chances are, Jim would probably at best vaguely remember a room mate of his kid brother some 30 years ago. The video speaks powerfully about the God we serve. If you’ve not yet seen it take a moment now to do so; it’s powerful.

On May 16, Zac went home to be with the Lord. His church family was gracious enough to post a portion of his memorial service on their website. This is a wonderful testimony of God’s grace. May Jesus Christ be praised!

Okay, the Thompson’s are doing a great job at keeping us updated on the NTI work team. Here is the latest update and pics.

Dear everybody,

Yesterday, a lot got done. Monica and Judy got the last few coats of paint on the cabin. Now the only thing to finish will be to paint the trim around the windows and doors which we will do at a later time.

As the saw mill cut the posts for the tool shed, the guys painted the bottom of them with creosote which will protect the part of the post that goes into the cement.

Matt and Dan took down some remaining fir trees so that they would have enough lumber for the deck and tool shed.

In the afternoon, the tractor came back and help yard those trees out to the landing where the saw mill was. Jeremiah had fun setting chokers for the tractor guy. They were both learning how to use sign language to communicate one with another.

The tractor also helped pull out a clump of Arayan stumps that were in the way in front of the tool shed.

Evan, Judy and I worked on digging 3 1/2 foot deep holes for the posts. Today, they are dismantling part of the old tool shed in order to dig the rest of the holes for the remaining posts.

Throughout the night before Matt got up to power trowel the floor in Nazaret. The next day also he would stop what he was doing to go and give it another run. The floor looks really nice. Blue “tierra de color” was added to the top layer with some cement to give it some color. This will be the finished look.

Monica held Madeline for me in between feedings so that I could participate in the work.

I split some firewood, dug a hole and helped move a pile of lumber. I had fun but was regretting it a bit that night when I was a bit sorer than I would have liked. I think Monica enjoyed a little babysitting break .
Well, I’ll send another email with random pictures.

Liz

Below is the latest update from the NTI Missions Team in Chile. This is sent by Missionaries/Camp Overseers Dan & Liz Thompson.

May 12, 2010

Dear everybody,

For some reason, I dropped the ball on getting these emails out to you guys about what’s been going on here on camp. So I am going to try and remember and hopefully the pictures will give you a good idea also.

Just because I haven’t written doesn’t mean we haven’t been busy. Last Friday was a big day for Dan and me because of going in for his class at the BI in Temuco and then doctor’s appointments and shopping in the afternoon. That day the team stayed on camp and worked most of the morning on cleaning up the mess of fallen trees out by the tool shed. They burned most of the brush and also got the logs bucked and ready for the sawmill. They took the afternoon off to go to Lican and see our little town.

Saturday, everyone was pretty tired out. They still worked but it was more of the same clearing and cleaning. Evan got the woodshed part of the tool shed taken down and they marked out the placement for the new shed.

Sunday was a very long day. We went to Coñaripe in the morning for their service. Of course it was Mother’s Day so they had a special presentation for that. Then we crammed ourselves in the van and the pickup and headed up to Liquiñe for their service. There also they had some special Mother’s Day presentations. They also had a few people visiting from other churches and they gave them time to share with the congregation. We didn’t get home till close to eight that night.

Monday, Danny went into town and rented the compacter for Nazaret. The fill needs to be compacted before we can pour. Danny also picked up the power trowel from the bus station. Jeremiah ran the compacter.

Danny brought back some paint also for the ladies to paint the inside of one of the cabins.

Yesterday was a day of juggling all the different teams. We had the tractor guys pulling logs out.

We had the sawmill guys cutting the logs into the lumber needed for the new deck and the new tool shed.

Matt, Evan and Jeremiah were on concrete duty and the ladies were painting Galilea cabin. Danny ran around making sure everyone had what they needed and helped with the concrete.

Unfortunately the guys ran out of gravel and daylight to finish the floor all at once. They got over half way done though. The girls have the first coat on the whole inside of the cabin.

Today Danny ordered more gravel so that they can finish the floor. While waiting for that to arrive, they will cut down a few more trees needed for lumber for the tool shed.

Well, I think that sums up what we’ve been up too these past few days. I will try to send some more pictures later.

Thank you for your prayers,

The below is a letter from missionaries to Chilé, Dan & Elizabeth Thompson. Dan & Liz serve at Camp Lican Ray where the NTI missionary team is currently working. This is their report.

Dear everybody,

We welcomed the team on Sunday afternoon. They arrived on a wet day but it sounds like after a few days of this kind of weather we should enjoy a few days of sun. We’ll see, you never can tell in this part of the world . After a tour of camp and some warm potato soup, we enjoyed some fellowship and then bed.

Yesterday, we didn’t start bright and early but the team still got lots done. The main project for the team is to redo the floor in one of our largest cabins on camp. This cabin is called Nazareth. It’s divided into two parts. One main room with cupboards to one side is used mostly as a children’s classroom and game room. The cupboards house the camp blankets and pillows. The rest of the cabin has two bedrooms (with capacity for 5 campers in total). The floor is wood but because of poor ventilations it is rotting out. It also is full of powder post beetles. We had some major holes in it last year and it was making it dangerous to have the kids class in it.

So job number one was to move all the blankets, mattresses, pillows and miscellaneous items out of the cabin. Then the team started taking out the interior walls and cupboards.
It was full of rabbit holes and tunnels. The floor will be poured a little lower than it was originally which will give us a bit more headroom.

They got a good fire going and were able to burn as they cut. The Styrofoam ceiling was also removed and for now we will put up some OSB sheeting. Down the road, the roof will need changed also and the sheeting can be reused then.

What we have in mind for the cabin is to move the bedroom part of the cabin to the other side of the building and make it one room instead of two. The rest of the room will still be used for the classroom. A double door entrance will be put in on the far end of the building facing the lake and the plan is to build a wood deck off that end. This entrance faces what will be the new kid’s playground and playing field next to the lake.

One bit of bad news. Danny went to the tool shed to grab the chainsaw to cut the floor out and it wasn’t there anymore. Sometime during our stay in Temuco the chainsaw walked off. We have total confidence in the lady who watched our house while we were gone but she only came once a day and all the lights were off in the house at night. Someone probably noticed this and broke into the tool shed. What is odd is that nothing else disappeared! Danny will go today with the papers from the chainsaw and advise the police. They have the Stihl brand of chainsaw here in Chile but not this model number so maybe that will make it easier to find. We are thinking of putting the new donation money to good use and build a tool shed that is better equipped to withstand a break-in. We’ll see if we have time while the team is here to do that. Danny and I went into Villarrica yesterday and bought a chainsaw to replace the one stolen. It wasn’t our’s or the camp’s but the mission’s so needed to be replaced.

Thank you for your prayers as the team continues to work here. There is a great spirit and lots is getting done. They are loving the food that Hermana Ana is making and she is keeping my house and theirs spotless also. She has been a huge blessing to me as I don’t have to worry about anything except taking care of the new little one and getting the kids through school in the morning.

We love you all and I will try to update with pictures and news every day.

Liz

Peter Johnson has labored alongside the Calvary church family for several years now, leading in the development of our music and worship ministry. He has unselfishly logged in many, many hours in planning, preparation, rehearsing, and discipling others in the work. Peter has recently accepted a position with Wells Fargo Bank that will put him out of town for about 80% of the time. Although he will keep his residence in Hot Springs he will no longer be able to serve at Calvary as before.

This Saturday evening, April 17, at 6:00 we will be hosting an Appreciation/Farewell Fellowship for Peter. It will be an informal get together where we will take a few moments to express our appreciation, pray together and just enjoy the fellowship. If you would like to bring Peter a card that would be nice. Bring a table game or two to play and some finger food and/or desert. We’ll get the coffee on, have some punch ready and plan on a great time together.
As a side note we are blessed to have Graham Parker in the wings who is willing to continue to serve in our music and worship ministry. He will be traveling with the CBI choir for 2 weeks this summer and will begin when he returns. We look forward to seeing what the Lord has in store.
